Go to Chapter Block

Go to Chapter Block

The Go to chapter block moves play to the chosen chapter when play reaches it. Nothing is shown on screen — the story simply continues from the chapter you picked. Use it to merge branches split by a choice back into one story, or to send the player to another chapter. It lives under [More ▾] on the insert bar.

How to Add It

  1. Select the last line of the chapter that should jump (usually the last line of a branch).
  2. On the insert bar, open [More ▾] and choose Go to chapter. The new block goes right after the selected line.
  3. Click the new line to open the details under the line, then choose the destination chapter.

Key Properties

  • Chapter to go to (labelName) — The chapter to move to. Pick it from the chapters in your list. Press [Open chapter] next to the selector to jump straight to the chosen chapter and check it.

If the chosen chapter is not in the list, the field turns red and a "This chapter does not exist" notice appears. Played that way, the game does not stop — it continues to the next block.

When to Use It

The game plays from the top of the list, and a Chapter block is only a name tag, so if a chapter has no Ending or Go to chapter at its end, play continues into the next chapter in the list. If you leave a branch chapter open, play runs into the other branch right below it, and the player sees dialogue from an option they did not choose.

That is why you put a Go to chapter block at the end of each branch chapter to set where it rejoins.

Choice:
  - "Friend A" → friend_a
  - "Friend B" → friend_b

Chapter: friend_a
Dialogue: (conversation with Friend A)
Go to chapter: after_choice

Chapter: friend_b
Dialogue: (conversation with Friend B)
Go to chapter: after_choice

Chapter: after_choice
Dialogue: (the story after both branches merge)

Quick Ways to Add It

  • [Add Go to chapter] button — Where a branch runs into an unchosen branch, the chapter-end strip shows a red warning ("Then the unchosen branch 'x' plays next") along with this button. Press it to put a Go to chapter block at the end of that chapter, then just pick the destination. The orange strip for a chapter that simply falls through into the next one ("Then → continues into the next chapter 'x'") has the same button.
  • [Make branch] on an option row — This button in the Choice details creates the branch chapters and puts a Go to chapter to the rejoin chapter at the end of each branch.

Usage Tips

  • Check the chapter-end strip — A chapter ending in Go to chapter shows "Then → go to chapter 'x'". Make sure the red warning is gone. The chapter name in the strip is an underlined button, so you can click it to see the destination right away.
  • Renaming is safe — When you rename a chapter, every Go to chapter block that points to it is updated too. When renaming, edit the characters in place rather than clearing the whole name first — if the name passes through an empty value, the choices, conditions, and Go to chapter blocks pointing at it are not updated.
  • Finding your way back — The destination chapter's title line gets a ← Go to chapter (in 'start') chip; click it to return to this block.
  • Keep it at the end of a chapter — Blocks placed after a Go to chapter are not played. Usually it is the last block of a chapter.
